To check do a compression test, or look for oily slick on top of water in headertank, or mayo type stuff in breather hoses or under oil filler cap

Note: Mayo stuff under oil filler doesnt suggest the HG gone tho it could just be moisture build up in the rocker cover

is the exhaust smoking?

i had a gasket blew once, but was split across the two holes, rather than coming out side of head.
