Was because of me opening my big mouth when i shouldnt have.
got offered a job at a competitor, handed in my notice.
local director comes to see me offers me different jobs to keep me, one of which i accept.
was told to keep it secret, along with salary, but then people started coming up to me saying I hear you are going to be at such and such a place as such and such.
so by this i think that it obviously is common knowledge so talk to the person i am taking over from. she is a mate and knew what salary i had been offered by the competitor, and asked if my place had matched it.
I neither confirmed or denied this, but said i had got a better salary than i am currently on with my place.
today had local director on the phone saying how he was disappointed that something we had discussed confidentially had been made common knowledge. i told him everyone was telling me what job i'd got.
he then said but there are only 2 people in this organisation that knew the salary arrangements and by you telling other people, it has caused me no end of problems as now instead of saving one person from leaving, i now face 3 others leaving as they feel undervalued (i was going to be on more money than others doing my role)
not in directors good books

Just say you said nothing...there just assuming based on what you told them you had been offered by other company and now your staying so must be offered more by them.
