it says in my guide that you need a tool to remove the wheel? will i need it or can you do it without the tool?
any feed back would be great.

You need a puller to pull the wheel of its splines - will take just a few mins.

You can try the method of undo the nut and bash it off but its a bit gash and can damage the coloumn/you! One method that may work is to LOOSEN the nut but leave it on, spray some wd40 around the splined area and drive your car for a while like that... it MAY loosen it but the BEST soloution is buy/borrow a puller.
