Have you check it isnt on mute, or the speakers are connected to the pc/speakers arnt off from the switch

When my sound goes I often find that msrgv (or something like that) is not responding

Check yor sound settings on the PC in the control panel. I have accidently turned on the the mute function for the PC speakers with some kind of keyboard short cut before today
