it went to the garage to have a water leak and oil leak fixed.
they found the water leak and set about repairing it, but found sludge in all of the hoses.
i swore it was radweld because i'd chucked a bottle in to try and sort the leak, and the sludge only reared it's head after the radweld had gone in.
anyway, the garage swore it was the headgasket and asked for permission to change it. i only replaced the gasket when the engine went in about 600miles ago, so didn't think it would be that; even though it's been running hot because of the water leak.
they trailered it back to me to investigate further, so i took it apart on tuesday, and split the manifold off the head today.
gasket seems fine, and there is far too much sludge to be just from the tiny bottle of radweld, so i think i've got a porous head. 
gasket: seems fine to me. slightly scorched on the right edge corners, but nowhere important.

that looks like porous head to me you should have seen the sludge in my cav... was near solid

i'm concerned now about clearing the crap out of the hoses and the matrix.
may be an excuse to get a set of silicone pipes i suppose.
extra expense all around though.
it's made a mess of my drive, a couple of mates drives, work car park etc.
only good thing is that it seem to wash away pretty easily.
i've taken the oppurtunity while it's off the road to have the injectors and icv ultrasonically cleaned. Also i can now access the couple of bits of wiring that were left dodgy (chocolate blocks. ) from when i couldn't reach them to solder when putting the engine in.
so it's not all bad

Think its about £90 if you take them the head, more if they have to take the engine apart.

i have a GM head here that im rebuilding, thinking it might be worth sending off even tho its not porus (yet) just one less thing that cant go wrong when its built
