Was taking my car for a spin last night after the christmas break, didnt get more than a 100m and heard a snap - something felt like it dropped - car cut out and now wont start

Pretty sure its the timing belt so my engine is probably caput!

What do you guys think I should do now?

Get another engine put in? Or just sell of my bodykit etc and get rid...

Was thinking of getting in touch with lee mitchell and see if he can help.

Engine, milage, car, age, mods?

Depends if its worth the expense of putting a new engine in it or not, but usually a bit of a waste to scrap a car over an engine.

Well you'll have to scrap it if the engine is fooked as you'll have a hard time trying to sell a car with a fooked engine! Its should only need a new head at worst surely? What engine is in it? Most corsa engines are fairly cheap these days as they are getting on a bit and cost of fitting a new engine would be in the region of £300-£500 i'd of thaught.

How about upgrade to 20XE or 20LET engines?

Its a 1996 Corsa B with a 1.4 16v Ecotec...its done about 96k.

Its got no engine mods just combat bodykit, lowered, 17" alloys and rear clusters...

You might need a new engine depending on the revs you were doing when it snapped.

You may only need a new set of valves though. It depends on if the valves have bent and messed the guides up in the head, or if the valves have nade a mess of the pistons. If you need a full head re-build then things will start getting costly, so it probably wouldn't be worth it on an old 14. Time for 2.0 eh

I was doing less than 3K when it went.

Burn it..lol...my insurance is too high already

Do you know any of those people Mattb?

That engine does seem like an option, its done a few miles but I supose it is cheap.

Replacing the engine is by far the cheapest option if you want to repair the car. Vauxhall 16v engines don't like loosing thier timing belts...

If you do plan on selling the car on you just need to advertise it in the Auto Trader, or ebay perhaps as a non runner, or for spares or repair - A mechanic or similar may be interested in it to make a little bit of cash off.

I think id like to get it running again, but only if it will be reilable after..id imagine it would be with it being the same engine.

For someone thats never done it before, how hard would it be for me to fit the engine myself with the aid of a haynes manual?

Ive been in touch with lee mitchell and his rate is very reasonable, but if its not too tricky it is something id like to be able to do myself.

Haynes manual, a mate, some tools and a spare weekend. You might even be able to get it in in a day...

Change the timing belt though before even starting the new engine, you must have left the one in there way too long for it to snap.
