Is this easily done? Am i right in saying that this is the only difference between the 1.6 16v and the 1.4 16v engines? How would it effect my engine management? Would i chip it as a 1.6?
Cheers people, and if this question has been asked before which im sure it has im sorry lol

It's pot luck what gearbox your 1.4/1.6XE could have. Can either be F13 or F15, not that's there's agreat deal of difference though.
The head gasket set would be £50 no including the labour time on it.
You can pick up a running 1.6 for 200, drop it in and sell the 1.4 for what you got the 1.6 for??
Save having the engine opened up.

yeh good point. So i dont really have to worry about gearboxes then? Its just a straight engine and wiring loom swap?
I would rather tune a 1.6 than a 1.4 :-)

each to there own I'm lookign at swapping to the 1.6 but I'm not sure yet.
Yeah you can swap just the engine over, I just too fuel lines off, coolant to heater matrix and rad, lifted loom out of car and up it went.
All gone.
then you just drop in the new on. It useful to put some wood under the gearbox so it's leve to make it easier to slide the new engin ein to place but brute force normally resolves any isses, then pipe back on and ecu in, chip and you're off.

Cheers for ya help i just want a bit more power! lol. Dont really want the hassle of a 2litre and also want to keep my handling. Let me know if you get rid of the 1.6 i might be interested if its low mileage!

I can't decide if adding another 50BHP on the car will give a bigger fun factor on the car. plus there's the insurance and tax hikes to content with. and the odd 1500 I'd drop the on the 1.6 aswell.
I've got other plans first to see if I can be happy with the car as is in the power stakes.
