Driving home just now in a 206cc and my brakes suddenly went very hard and there is a hissing noise from the footwell when driving - it dissapears when you apply the brakes Any ideas what it might be?

The hissing noise is possibly the brake vacuum hose which has come off. Rendering the brakes useless. Probably best not to drive it again.
