is it possible to isolate 1 PC on a small network (5 PC's or so).
I want this PC to be able to browse the internet via the ADSL router but not see any of the other PCs on the network.
each pc is on WinXP

try placing the one machine on a different workgroup name eg other 4 on MSHOME and one on WORK. Or do you want them to not be able to even ping each other?

then surely if you do as i said, just assign the one machine to a non existant workgroup and that should work

but when you enter "my network" you can view each work group and therefore each PC within the work group?

On the machine in question, if you right click my computer, go to proporties, click the computer name tab, and then click the change button.
Where it says workgroup just type anything, and click ok. It should welcome you to that workgroup.
Now usually when you go into my network places and click what you usually do to see workgroup machines, you should just get errors.

Setup IP Security policies on the machine in question so it can't talk to the any IP except the router...
Administrative Tools > IP Security Policies
Alternatively, put them on different subnets, but this is only good if your router is good enough to have multihomed IPs and allow you to manually specify firewall rules to stop them talking to each other....
I'd personally just use the IP policies....

you wont be able to use windows networking, workgroups, etc.
normally its enabled on the settings for the network connection, down as "Client for Microsoft networks" and "file and print" stuff if you want to really piss them off.
