Ecotec just has EGR system and more restricted inlet for emissions purposes. I think the bottom end is the same - but I could be wrong?

trouble with a pre-ecotec is that you'll have trouble finding one thats in gd condition.

X16XE has that the C16XE does not have
1. Secondary air pump
2. EGR valve
3. Map sensor
4. And another sensor that I can't remember

Ecotec or non-Ecotec, the engines are both pretty shite. Go for the best condition car/mileage you can find for your money.

Buy the Ecotec, it'll be newer with lower mileage.

Like you said Ash, go for the newer model, chances of lower mileage for the sake of 3bhp and slightly better response to tuning

Yup Honda manage to squeeze 240bhp out of the 2.0 they stick in the S2000, its a shame Vaux cant do that

No Vauxhall dont do that, but it is easily possible. Honda's are just revvy junk with silly rev limits.

ive had both the c16xe and the x16xe.
didnt notice any difference in the two as standard, id go for the x16xe personally as they are newer with more low milage ones about, and the c16xe will need piston rings and valve stem seals at 70-80k they all seem to start smoking at this point.
