we all hear about outdoor shots etc... but what about indoor photo's IE of the mrs OR of a pet ? whats the best techniques etc?

if indoors your likely to need flash. onboard flashs are quite harsh. standt too close and you'll just burn out the face etc. best to stand back atleast 1.5m when using flash. if the flash is too harsh put a bit of white paper infront of the output and this will diffuse the output light to give a softer more wide spread of light.if your camera has flash exposure compentsation (FEC) then you can turn the flash output down

you can also make use of windowlight. although you get shadow you can reduce this by using a mirror or white paper to refect light back to the subject. although shadow is good for some shots

you'll be amazed at what you can achive using house hold lights, mirrors and A4 paper

Its surprising how little light have indoors, even on bright days. If you're experimenting try directing the flash up to the ceiling as well. A lot of cams will compensate the output and increase it and light bounced off the ceiling is far nicer than that shone directly in the eyes of your subject.
