Just connected a usb HDD to my server and it installs it all etc automatically and tells me it is ready to use. However if I go to my computer the USB HDD isnt there. Just the internal one Any ideas? I havent had a chance to restart it as it is being used at the moment but could try that at lunch. Also, I connected it to my local computer and it installed etc and showed up in my computer straight away
Cheers Mark

It has a thing for safely remove hardware in the system tray and when you click it has the USB HDD there to safely remove.
Ive checked device manager and under diskdrives it is there and says it is working correctly. If I click on populate it shows the number of bytes etc on the HDD

In my computer the only thing that is there is one internal drive under Hard Disk Drives. THe USB HDD should be under Devices with removable storage but the heading nor the device is actually in my computer

You need to partition the new drive i suspect..
Control Panel, Admin Tools, Computer Management, Disk Drives, right click the new disk, select appropriate option.

Just re-read your original post and rather than partitioning the new drive, you may need to 'import' the drive as a 'foreign device'.
Similar procedure to what i just described above, but chose a different option at the final stage (if i remember correctly).

You sure it has not shown up as an additional network drive?. I had a USB drive that got mapped to M:\ automatically with a name of Genetic Storage.

You running SP1 for Server 2003?
I've seen other people complaining about additonal storage device on the OS and it's been said it possibly a driver issue and Microsoft have updated this is either the SP1 or another update download.
