I'd not believe any stats - go get your cars weighed properly.
As Broster said (was it teddys?) his mates Gsi weighed 902 kg! stripped!
Also don't forget to add driver say 55-60 kg. when working out your power to weight.
I still think a AX GT will beat a 1.4 16v corsa in a straight line - HOWEVER the ax gt engine may be shagged...

I'd personally prefere a corsa over a AX GT though... AX's are the grimmest looking cars ever lol.

I have owned a 1.4 sport and an AX GT Trust me AX will win every time, will also take 1.6 of the mark, handling is not as good as most make out though.

i found the ax handeled a hell of a lot better than the corsa, even on uprated spings and dampers i felt the ax felt alot better

Thing is standard for standard the AX probably handles better... but a decent suspension kit on a corsa probably = better than AX standard. However if AX is lowered as well then
I still think my old Corsa handled nicer than my Gti does. You felt so stable and secure in the corsa, lowered 40mm on a full kit. Maybe the 15's helped too - the 106 Gti seems to drift around on those little wheels and tyres.
Saying that, get a decent kit on a 106 Gti and it should be good - sadly no money.

Not say handling is poor just not perhaps as 'magical' as everybody makes french cars out to be

AX both GT and GTi will beat both 1.4 and 1.6 corsa in standard form due to power to weight
