I'm thinking of getting one on Choices finance deal and using my old Astra as p/x. Would suit me fine as this will be a brand spanker with a year's free insurance, plus I would only keep it for 3 years and give it back, then I don't have to worry about selling it etc. when I leave for Australia, and will only have to pay for 2 years insurance instead of 3.
It's the 1.2 16v twinport version with easytronic box I'm after, I think they are 80bhp - perhaps someone can confirm this?
Are these easytronic boxes better than a bog standard auto box?
And before anyone asks - I don't want to get a manual version - I hate driving manuals!

From Vauxhall's site:
Easytronic five-speed transmission with sequential manual gearshift or automatic mode
With Easytronic there's no need for a clutch pedal so you can drive it on an automatic-only licence.
If you pull up sharply it will not stall and if you press the 'Winter' button it will help you to avoid wheelspin in slippery conditions. The facia display tells you what gear you are in - 1-5 or (A) for Auto. In Neutral (N) - it even warns you if you open the door without the brake pedal depressed or handbrake on.

It sounds like a clutchless manual to me. It has 5 forward gears just like a manual - a normal auto box only has 4.

Apart from the normal 5 6 and 7 speed automatic gearboxes that are on the market.

4 speed autos are commonplace in the same way as 5 speed manuals are.
3 speed autos and 4 speed manual are generally old hat
and your 5 6 and 7 speed autos and 6 and 7 speed manuals although gettimg more common are more top line stuff.
Unless you start talking lorries.
Anyway
The easytronic is for me a fantastic gearbox if you want a manual alternative.
But a poor alternative if you want a replacement auto.
In auto the gearbox is very jerky and really needs slight lifts to change gear.
In manual you can just bang it through the gears but does ideally need a lift on the up change.
Pulling up and stopping at lights in manual mode it will automatically change down into first for you.
The 1.2 is nippy enough but it would be nicer with a 14 16 engine.
I wonder how much torque the box could take before it died?

Out of interest - on the Vectra C, I once had an SRi auto hire car, it looked different to the easytronic in the Corsa, but you can drive it like a manual ie. 5 forward gears. I take it this is a different type of auto box, and not an easytronic?

could you physically change the gears or did you just select the maximun gear.
Most autos you can select a lower gear for hill descent or driving on slippery surfaces etc.

nice cars but defo go 4 the manual. i work at vaux n every1 hates the easytronic box. u drive it just like a normal manual except u dont have a clutch. the big down side is the time it actually takes 2 change gear. u really notice the front of the car dippin n hten raisin between gear changes.

If you mean the Vectra, it's got the usual P/R/N/D but you can shift the lever to the right (looks different in the pic I posted because it's LHD) and go up or down, and it will hold the engine in that gear unless you are doing like 10mph in 3rd then I think it just shifts it down to 2nd or 1st for you.
Don't know about the Corsa one though - haven't actually driven an Easytronic one yet.
