curently got a old slow LG cd-r/dvd drive, and now got a 2nd hand better/faster samsung cd-r/dvd drive of a freind, plugged it all in as to my old one and put the jumper pin on the "csm" to "A" like on my old one but what is this??

anyway, windows xp sp2 detected it and installed it and said ready to use, and in device manager it says its fine... when i put in ANY cd with music or files on it etc it says its blank?????

well, it should say blank, cause a cd-r is a blank cd

no.. obviously not blank cd's
i meant ANY cd with data on it- files, music, games etc???

C S M stands for Cable Select, Slave or Master, A i assume means auto

if xp has picked it up it wont be to do with that.

Do you have any roxio software as this can be a bugger, try removing that if you do

cheers, il leave it on auto then, somthing might be conflicting with it during the installation process!????

i have antivirus programs and win service pack2, 3.5 floppy and a 7port usb hub

set your drive to master if its on its own cable, if its sharing with somthing else check if its master or slave, then set yours to the other. cable select is ye oldy style.

the drive is set to master and i uninstalled it and reinstalled it but still same thing, every cd i put in it says it is Blank??

im begining to think the default windows Drivers may need updating??

Drive is faulty imo.

it was working perfect when it came out of my mates computer??

Faulty IDE Cable? Mates had a really slow drive and it turned out to be this

my old cd-rw/dvd drive works fine on my IDE cable, so it cant be that!
the drive was literally taken out of my mates computer just after he used it! and i put it into mine

should i try updating the driver for it??
