desktop support around here starts at 14k and goes up to 24k max. After that you are looking at 3rd line support for which you will need an MCSE or some CISCO qualifications.
you could find a position in IT support that doesnt need any formal qualifications, just an aptitude for IT.
Bear in mind there are a lot of paper MCSE`s out there. People that go on the boot camps and become an MCSE expecting to walk into a 30k job, but they struggle as they have no workplace experience.

So to start off im best off looking at getting a job first for experience rather than going for the job with qualifications?
I have an A level in computing but places tend to want experience over qualifications these days!

I have no major qualifications apart from GCSE's and BETC Adv GNVQ. I'm now a Purchasing manager and earn over £30k plus bonuses and additional packages.
It all depends on what you want and how willing you are to push yourself!

so applying for the job you first had would you say qualifications played a big part in getting it?
