but best way would be to just open boot and fill up and loose that bit all together and seal it off

aint a structural point is it? just metal bit round old filler neck. as above should be fine. but id do as adam-d says, fill up in the boot. will add more mystery to the car when your at petrol stations. especially if you also climb out through the boot

Yeah, weld up your front doors too, dehandle them, smooth over the filler cap, and get in and out through the boot.

Yeah I think that what i going to do too saves stinking the car out of petrol every time you got to fill up.
I want one of thos flush fitting ones but not sure what one will fit

Tank in the boot will mean higher centre of gravity, and smell is unavoidable.

Only just the tank sitting in the spare wheel well is on the same plane as the original tank.
I admit the original tank probably sat a bit lower

i put my fuel filler behind the rear light cluster by using flexy pipe to move it, i have no problem with the smell as it uses all original pipes and filters etc.
