Different police forces have different guidelines for visability/notification of cameras

Some are not required to advertise the cameras

The law states that speed cameras in a 30 Mph zone have to have a flourescent backing to them and be visible from up to 70 yards away, ones n a 50 have to be visible from 200 yards and have the flourescent backing.. I think

The new rules state that:

Camera housings must be yellow
No camera housing should be obscured by bridges, signs, trees or bushes
Cameras must be visible from 60 metres away in 40 mph or less areas and 100 metres for all other limits
Camera warning and speed limit reminders must be placed within one kilometre of fixed and mobile camera sites
Signs must only be placed in areas where camera housings are placed or where mobile cameras are used
Mobile speed camera users must be highly visible by wearing fluorescent clothing and their vehicles marked with reflective strips
Camera sites must be reviewed at least every six months to ensure that visibility and signing conditions are being met

thank you thank you thank you!

Signing
Camera warning and speed limit reminder signs must be placed in advance of fixed or mobile speed enforcement taking place. Ideally these should be placed within 1 km of fixed camera housings and at the beginning of a targeted route for mobile enforcement sites

there was no sign on my side of the road so does this mean i can get out of it if i appeal?

yes, but double check that it is not signposted in advance.

There is a massive loophole here in NSW, nearly every single speeding offence can now be reviewed in court, and penalties removed and fines refunded. It was found that the unique security code which belongs to each photo does not have strong enough encryption, and can be hacked. all speed cameras in NSW may have to be taken offline because of this.
