Been reading a few rumours on google to introduce their own Operating System.
That company is going from strength to strength.
quote:
Google has introduced services that clearly indicate their desire to build a comprehensive “platform,” one that challenges Microsoft’s dominance in this area head on (Gmail, Desktop Search, now GD2, and Google Talk). So what is Google’s master plan? I believe they are once again going counterintuitive, but in a manner that hits Microsoft where it hurts most. Google will make Microsoft’s entire strategic plan and mission, which revolves around the continued proliferation and dominance of the desktop PC operating system, obsolete by making Google itself the operating system. The model they are pursuing is very similar to Sun Microsystems’ (Jonathan Schwartz’s) vision of turning computing into a utility, like electricity. The only difference is that Google is already almost there.
These 'rumours' can be found on loads of sites, but in particular the one below.
I know its just rumours, but the gmail 1gb account started as rumours, as did the Google IM.

everything starts as rumours!
I wouldnt be suprised if they did it, as that is the natural progression of the way they are currently heading. But I am unsure if they will let it run that far, atleast not for the foreseable future IMO!

It wouldn't be too hard for them to push out another version of Linux, but if they want to dominate the world the should opt for something new... Look forward to hear more about this

The google os rumour is ancient.
How is a search and email provider a natural start to developing an Os.
What a load of rubbish.

Anyone can make an operating system, the clever bit is getting people to use it - and Google are no stranger to rolling out popular software.

Googles current products are so good because they are better than the alternatives.
No matter what people say windows is a good operating system.
It'll have to be a very good OS to make a sizeable dent in the windows userbase. Which I doubt.
And if google office is just open office with a google logo its nowhere near as good as MS office anyway.
This is all from a n00b though.
