What should i replace to do a quick/mini rebuild of my X14XE engine, its very loud under normal driving and i think i have an air leak on the inlet manifold as it ticks alot under acceleration?
Cheers

If an X14XE uses a lot of oil (but not stupid amounts), would the valve stem oil seals be at fault and not piston rings?
(sorry for hijacking thread)

try and borrow a tester. think they are only £15-20 anyway.
failing that take it to any mechanics.
probably be an hours (charged not worked) labour. £30-40 ?
i'll find a guide for you if you do it yourself.

this goes well in depth.
there's easier instructions on the back of tester packaging, but this is a good guide of how to interpret results.

If you remove the cylinder head yourself, an engineering company will do a basic restoration on it for around £250-300. Won't include that much, they'll bath it, get rid of all deposits, change oil seals, maybe skim it...
