If a website was averaging 2000 unique visits a month would you say that is a decent number of potential paying customers?

fair enough, why do you say that though?
its not hits, its definately averaging 2000 unique visits. thats 60-70 a day and the site is really plugged in a big way or submitted in any listings search engines etc.

Any money taken is more than you will have if there's not paying members - if the income isn't sufficient to retire, re-invest in hardware and advertising and wait.
