well at a guess i would say that the 2 mammoth turbos would first supply boost, then once they are up at full pressure, that humongous supercharger would kick in and give a second whack of boost. remember that it is an AMG supercharger, dsigned to be driven by a chunky V8, not revvy 4 cylinder boxer, so the turbos would in effect "help" the supercharger to fire up and produce boost

chimp: wouldnt it be the otherway round? The supercharger would be boosting from idle, one turbo kicking in quite early and then the other one with the super charger blowing all the time.

yes timmy, i thought that would be the logical thing, but perhaps it engages after the turbos? i cannot begin to imagine the hard time that engine will have to whirr up that SC, the Subaru boxer engine is notoriously piss weak below 3000rpm

yes but a super charger spins from alot lower down than a tubby.

I would imagine it would be the other way round too. Supercharger provides low down power then the turbos kick in higher up the revs? eliminates lag?

That's the way compound engines usually work (s/c first as normal from 2000rpm ish (depending on engine etc) then turbo to effectively hold and increase boost higher up?

Yeah but look at the pulley on the supercharger, it looks the same as the ones used for aircon that can be disengaged. My guess would be the charger provides lagless boost up to around 4000rpm, then the turbos would kick in and the supercharger would disengage?
Im probably wrong tho!

Supercharger will probably be on a cetrafugal clutch so when the engine is between, say, 1000 and 4000 RPM the 'charger produces boost. After that the turbos will have spooled, the supercharger will cut out and the turbos will provide the boost....
