skip all that and just assign yourself an IP:
192.168.0.5
fill in the gateway with the same IP as above.
Do you have any firewalls turned on? if so try switching them off.
Trying logging into your router and 'testing' the settings via your router.

Hi Icy.
First we need to get a full idea of what we are dealing with, if you can do what Ian has asked to do and paste the output here, you should have something like this:
code: Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet
for hp
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0D-9D-49-3E-B2
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.27
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.100
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.100
192.168.0.254

you can.
Right click in the black window, press 'Mark'
Then select the area you wish to copy by dragging the curser over the text and hold down left mouse button.
Once area is highlighted, press the Return key and it will copy it to the clipboard
