Phoning around a few garages this morning to get priced up a new front wheel bearing for my brother's mk4 Astra, most places charge about £80+VAT all inclusive.

I phoned up Burnham Garage in Slough, someone phoned me back about 30 mins later with a price of...

£282+VAT

I booked his car in with a local garage to get the job done on wednesday, £96.35 inc. parts, labour, and VAT.

Yeah Burnham Garage is still a Vauxhall dealer but they also sell Daewoo (sorry Chevrolet ) cars too...

This is because on the mk4 astra Vauxhall wont just reaplce the bearing - they reaplce the hub as well because they have a habit of wearing with the bearing.

Is this only with the mk4 or just any Vauxhall in general?

Brother's mk4 is just bog standard 4 stud with no ABS. The price I quoted from Vauxhall was just for the bearing and fitting, does not include price of hub...

Well I told my brother when he takes the car to the garage tomorrow to get them to call him if the hub is worn so they can replace that at the same time too!

This is actually a mk4 design fault.

Just for the bearing or fitting included? The actual parts shop at Burnham Vauxhall is a Motoractors type place. So they sell genuine and non genuine parts.
