Please dont laugh but can anyone tell me how 4 wheel drive works

Its part time 4 wheel drive so i have a button to turn it on and off and a gear stick with neutral then up for hi and down for low

I got stuck 6 times in the snow so think its about time i used it properly

When i put it on but left it in neutral it made a difference but i dont know how to work the hi and low bit

Toyota hilux surf by the way and no piss taking please

neautral is just all 4 turning.

High and low gears are for like getting up hills, getting out of snow etc.

like gears on a bike.

Its has 2 different sets of gear ratio's, so obviously hi is high ratio (higher speeds) and lo is low ratio (low speeds), in snow you want to select lo.
