I'm looking to fabricate my own vid camera mount for my rollcage.

Basically it would need to a few swivel joints to accomadate funny angles etc.... some rubber 'washers' to act as shock absorbers...

Can anyone make any suggestions, drawing would be great..... example pics too...

Not too complex either please, as i'm making it...

here is a quick bash i did

Two clamps (like exhaust U clamps) holding plates onto the roll cage. Ach.... figure the rest out... as i'm still trying to work it out myself

maybe i'm over complicating it....

3 directions of movemen can be had with just one joint

Cage - round
Swivel - up/down
Camera bolt - camera direction

The placement of rubber to dampen shocks is quite critical, otherwise you introduce more vibration than you remove. Is there not an existing design you can borrow?

when ive been to a rally, the cameras on westfield's are attached to the roll bar via a small system like your top drwing, no fancy dampers etc so it must be fine

like adam-b his camera is mounted solid to the dash and his vids turn out spot on

The Superclamp with Ball Leveller secures the Camcorder to any pole, tube, bench or table. Its jaws will attach to anything between 12 to 55mm in width. It can be fixed either vertically or horizontally. The Camcorder attaches to a ball levelling head making it ideal for Mini DV cams and all types of handheld camcorders up to 1.5kg.

Suitable for Mini DV cams & all types of small handheld Camcorders up to 1.5kg.

Looks like overkill but it would be less messing than fabricating your own.
