on the above car? it's being sold cheap and i'm interested,as its got PAS but timing belts gone

Probably looking at around £200 to replace belt but if the belts gone then the valves may have been bent. If so then its not worth it unless you can fix it yourself. If its 8v you may get away with it.

8v or 16v??

either way will most likely have bent valves, as there all inteference engines on clio's

depends on how cheap the car is.
Price on Car + Price of second hand engine = Less then book value then worth looking at

i know of....

8v engine will be £250 to £300 for a garage repair...

16v... probably £500 region...

tbh, given the price of engines, may just be cheaper to wait for a good car like you say, instead of buying a heap of shit!
