Im after a new TV for the sitting room.
I dunno what to get. There is soooo much choice. My budget is £1000 and i have a 26 in tv thats about 8 years old so its needing replaced
Any Suggestions from people who have these new tv's

Play games?
If you want 37"+ then plasma
37" and below LCD
If you play games get LCD as plasma has issue with screen burn (image static on screen for a period of time burns into the screen)
plenty of makes to choose from but choose the best makes out there (panasonic, sharp, sony, hitachi, loewe, etc)

nice one. Will be mainly for viewing.
watch alot of football and i heard some tv's have a struggle keeping up with the players. IE the image is blurred slightly.
Dont want that

LCD if you can. You will find LCD is more expensive for the same size in plasma, but well worth every penny.

I've got a HD 32" Samsung LCD which cost me £780 from Empire. Its spot on with the 360 and its really bright. Films like Finding Nemo look fantastic with it being so bright! I have heard about LCD's suffering from motion blur but i've not noticed any issues with mine? Saying that i've not watched football on it so i cant comment on that but the F1 looked superb today

Buy an lcd, plasmas don't have the resolution.

LCDs dont do blacks and screen burn doesnt really effect them that much anymore - so get a decent plasma, cheaper, better clearer and better coloured pictures. Look at panasonics and pioneers about the best plasmas going 
oh as for resolution, most decent plasmas will do 1300 or so, so plenty high enough for HD

you gotta be kidding?
pop down to your local dixons/comet etc and take a look at the difference between a 42" plasma and LCD, Plasma go all faint/watery at a larger size.
LCD is definatly superior, hence the extra money

If you bought a hi def plasma it would probably look much better.
The ones you are looking at in comet etc aren't.

especially considering there running the screens of the same signal thats been splitted etc
Run it on component, HDMI etc then pictures will look shite hot
eitherway, if youre buying a plasma you shouldnt be looking in dixons/comets etc - need propper AV shops like sevenoaks, richersounds (for the old models, can pick up semi-good plasmas for around a grand)......

this is what pissed me rite off when i was lookin for a new tv around christmas time.
i mean wtf is the point in trying to encourage people to buy into new technology when they dont even set it up correctly to show what its capable of.
i went into a powerhouse that looked scabby as fuck compared to dixons/currys but had all the HD tvs running HD pictures through shit hot cables.
HD is definitely worth the extra money

no, but there splitting the signal - so the picture will be shitter than it should be. Get your sky/cable box and use scart/s-video etc and the picture will be pretty good - i agree, watching normal tv or them arnt the best (both plasma and LCD are pretty cack for watching low res tv) but then again you dont spend 2k on a screen just to watch tv
get yourself loads of mags, like what cinema (Think thats the one) and read up on av forums etc and then go hunting for the screen - like i say, stay away from dixons and retail stores, stick to your local av store, they will usually be happy to set up the screen how you are going to have it and with the gear you have (if they have it obviously)
