Owned both of these cars.. HAd a 1.6 sport which a lot of u will know and now have a 106 GTi... Build quality corsa wins hands down, 106 never feels tight or well built.

But engine wise the GTi is a lot better, not as nice to drive but a lot quicker.. Oh and to back the corsa up, I dont notice the 106 handling much better than my sport..

Idealy I would have my sport with a TB'd XE in it over the GTi...

had two corsas a an sri 8v and then a 2.0lt with cams, sold that for a vts saxo ph1, then sold that for another vts ph2 saxo. feel the corsa is more of a girls car until you do somw serious engine mods as they are all very slow. Love the vts as there arnt as many about as you might think[most being vtr's] yes the vtr isnt a rocket but it wasent ment to be, if it was why buy a vts for double the insurance.

Saxo's engines tend to last longer than corsa ones apparently, if nothing else? It's only really the interior build quality that lets them down IMO.
