I´m thinking about doing it. I´d like to hear other people´s experiences with installing it. I would first do the fuel management and afterwards upgrade to the spark too. I have a c16xe, currently with Mantzel setup, might get TBs one day.

So what´s involved with the fuel management ?
- Obviously throwing away the air mass meter, and installing the map sensor.
- I guess the original TPS will be fine ?
- I need to install an intake air temp sensor.
- CTS will work fine ? and if it doesn´t, I can map it with easytherm.
- Would a broadband lambda be worth the price ?
- Any fuel maps that I could use to start with ?

And the spark
- Can the original DIS be used ? Or do I need to get a Ford EDIS and a 36-1 trigger wheel ? Or something else ?
- Can the original knock sensor be used with some extra code or something ?

The rest is just careful assembly and wiring. Am I right ? So, opinions, pros, cons, anything...

there is lots of work that needs to go into the megasquirt system to run on your spec. also you would need to run the fuelling and timing all off the megasquirt system as well, cant do half and half.

I looked at using megasquirt but decided against it, they dont work well with the mantzel due to the stepper motor style icv and the hassle of changing to map sensor and also would need a non amplified dis pack.

for £1000 you can get the gotech system from jamsport. thats what I was going to get but I got a good deal on a full throttle body and management and loom set-up. The gotech system has loads of features and for your £1000 you get the ecu, loom, all fitted and mapped! Speak to Broster he has it on his car. If i was to get new management this would be the one I would get.

Also, i found that theres a lot of places that dont like mapping the megasquirt system.

Oh, I forgot about the ICV-thing. I would probably need to fix the throttle plate so that it´s always a bit open to make it idle. That would be pretty bad for cold starting I guess. We do have another car for daily use but I´d still like some reliability.

I checked the Gotech website and it looked good. Although when you check my location, you´ll see that the fitting part will be out of the question due to the distance from here to Jamsport

What about this one then ? http://kms.vankronenburg.nl/ I could get that for under 800£ and it would include fuel and ignition controllers, coil and sensors. Will be even cheaper if I can use some of the existing parts. Anyone ever seen one these in action ?

£1000 for the ecu, fitted and setup is ok,
BUT,
The whole idea of a megasquirt is to save money.
A mate of mine did a similar conversion to a 1.6 zetec in a mk1 escort.
The hardest bit is getting it started the very first time as you dont have any base map to start from,it took a good couple of hours just to get it to run well enough to get to the rolling road, then you have to find a rolling road that can use the megasquirt system, alot of rolloing roads will only do certain types of ecu.
You really need another car to use while you get the MS going properly,or be able to put the system back to standard easily.
Im giving it a go soon,i got The MS kit a while ago,its built and tested, just gathering all the bits to use bike TB's.

Out of interest, what is the manzel box like on the standard ecu?

mantzel box is good on the standard ecu. gives the smallblock xe's a good gain. most ive done see around 120-125 bhp with just the mantzel.
