God knows why he bought that and put a bloody vw engine in it.
Should have bought the insane red land speed record ZT-T and used it as a tow car for his Escort.
Probably coz its a cracking engine! The 1.8t is infanitly tuanble (iv seen them making 500BHP +) its reliable and they are fairly cheap and easy to come across!
Im jus trying figure out why you would fit that cracking engine into a rover??!!
I worked on vws for 2 years and they are not reliable.
The PD unit makes for a more thrilling drive than the 1.8T, and every modified 1.8T that came through the doors of the dealer I worked at was in trouble.
The VVC unit used in Rover, MG, Caterham and Lotus cars is a far nicer unit to drive in standard form and more reliable in my experience.

I know when they have been tuned badly they do tend to drop valves but this is down to poor mapping!!
It does lack character a bit, it certainly aint no G60!

new engines dont have character, old engines do.
same as houses. 21st century houses lack character, old cottages have it.
end of.

I take it you don't live in a old cottage. Character is one way to describe it

[quote="martin-reyland"]Found out today that the car is equipped with gravel spec coil overs which are too long for the ride height I will be running  but within an hour I managed to source a set of shorter tarmac spec one's as a straight swap for the gravel spec shocks D: they are in better condition too..

Here are some pics of the brakes...

The original disc for comparison..
