Hi guys, hows it going? My mate was telling me he was going to get his car "de-ecotec'd" and it would give him an extra 10bhp. He has a 1.4 sport. i have a 1.6 sport and was wondering if you can actually do this and if u can does it actually benefit you or will it fuck my engine? Cheers dudes and dudettes

wth

I thought 'ecotec' was just the line of engines, not like a feature of the engine.

yeh its a feature just a little thing that whizzes and heats the cat up quicker so the cat works better so the car gives off less emissions, i dont think removing it will get you any more Bhp but it will get rid of that annoying whirring noise on start up.

All 16valve engines into the Corsa B are Ecotec engines, even the C16XE. they are all in the same group called GM Family 1 Ecotec.
C16XE had no EGR and sec air pump, but was still an Ecotec engine through design. An X16XE can see small gains by blocking off the EGR valve port. Its unclear whether removing the sec air pump can gain any HP, since its only used when the engine is started from cold.
So the term "de-ecotec" is not really accurate, maybe de X'ing the 16XE is...
