it's a k750i, on payg, on o2 if this makes any difference.
after each call/text it displays a message "your current balance is....", basically i don't want it to show it. can't find anything in the phone settings to turn this off, is it something to do with o2? anyone know how to stop it?

Yes, it's an O2 thing. Will do it on any phone that's on O2.

I bet I know what you're problem is!
I bet if you don't click ok after it's displayed you're balance it doesn't alert you for any future text messages, then they come through after you realise and click ok. Am I right?  Does it on my W800i and used to really piss me off, but it's just a habit now clicking ok to it

There's a way to turn it off, actually. I think you can ring Customer Services or something. I know people that have done it.

After you saying that I called O2 and you're absolutely right. You can turn off anything you like.
I've turned off the blanace thing after texts and calls, also turned off that daft woman that say "your calling credit is low"
I'm free!!
