Luton Town have gone some way to compensating for the loss of Steve Howard by agreeing a fee for Hartlepool striker Adam Boyd.
The Hatters have been long-term admirers of the front-man and failed in a £500,000 bid for his services back in January.
However with last season's top scorer Howard leaving to join Derby County in a £1 million deal, Luton boss Mike Newell has once again moved for his former charge at Victoria Park.
The 24-year-old will now discuss terms at Kenilworth Road ahead of a switch to the Bedfordshire outfit, snubbing other Championship suitors in the process.
Boyd missed a large majority of last season due to a knee injury, and after Hartlepool's relegation to League Two his future was thrown into doubt.
Cardiff, Norwich and Barnsley were all linked with the man who netted 29 times in the 2004/20005 season, but Luton now appear to be on the brink of landing their long-term target.
The Hatters have seen their squad depleted by high profile departures this summer, with captain Kevin Nicholls also joining Leeds United, but Boyd's potential arrival would add depth to a front-line currently comprising of Rowan Vine and Warren Feeney.

Christ, BIG BIG risk signing - sell your top scorer and replace with Boyd. Had a 'mare last year with injuries and lack of form. Be interesting to see if he can find his scoring boots and in a higher division. Could be a good signing but I reckon the odds are against. I've got Luton down to struggle this year a little.

I think it's a superb signing PLUS they have spare cash left over.
If he can do it in the championship im not sure but a very useful player.

Not a risk at all. That's why there are medicals..... Besides before last season he scored 29 goals. Howard is past it. He was our top scorer but with 14 goals, hardly a massive total.
I'm looking forward to Boyd signing. Hungry young striker, knows where the net is, and has worked with Newell before.
Oh and we won't struggle. Everyone said that last season and we finished top 10.

Medical doesn't determine if he can make the grade at a higher level though. We'll see.

Well we signed Howard from the basement division, as well as Carlos Edwards. As did Southend with Eastwood. Newell knows best

Agreed. Neither were anywhere near our best players, but they are the 'household names' at luton so people think they are our best.

Yep i can think of around 6 players who are key to us, they are all on longish contracts
Plus some of the youngsters look ace, best batch for a while
The signs are good for the hatters.
Plus talking money we are £1.25m up on transfer dealings.... plus Luton have a huge sell on fee for Curties Davies
