Been having a look on the trader and there is quite a few available, all VAG cars like you said Rob.
I found, all with the best spec engine 1.9Tdi 130 bhp 6 speed
A choice between:
Ibiza
Leon
Golf
Bora
Passat
Remaps to about 170bhp
Obviously the Ibiza is gonna be the fastest, alot of power for a little car, but still unsure what to get. Would spend about 8k rather than 10, so am not skinted after it.

last week i was going through the same decisions as you are
i finally ended up choosing a mg zt td135 as it looks the sportiest/classiest inside and out, is a big car which suits me and also had great reviews when it was new and uses the same engine as the bmw 220d,however iv been checking and it isnt quite as tuneable as the vw cars, superchips only gets it to 144bhp and 351nm of torque but there is someone who sells a piggy back chip which pushes them to 166brake and that will do for me as it still does 50mpg average
out of your choices id say leon or golf good luck buddy

Thats a good point that rusty, aas the MG's caught my eye.
I quite like the look of the high spec MG ZS's. The ones with the 17's on and the better kit, splitter etc. But not many about in diesel form, and like you said wouldnt imagine them being very quick. I want something really, that is going to be a bit of a step up from my old 1.6 sport
