i know he cant come on here any more, but for anyone that has him on msn etc, could you ask him if he would be willing to give me some pointers please using my cam especially zoom etc.
for example i was trying to get a very close up photo of this grasshopper but i could not get close enough with the zoom with out it going out of focus or even using the macro feature. i am using a canon A620 camera btw.
cheers

You need a proper macro lens to focus any closer.
The lens has a minimum focus distance and under that you won't be able to achieve focus at all.

If I actually looked at the picture properly before commenting I would have realised that what I described wasn't the problem.
Sorry about that.
The bug in the picture just looks to have been too small for the autofocus to focus on.
Any way to manual focus it?

lol vibrio made the same mistake as I did.
I think they lenses you are talking about just go on the end.
I'm not sure about them.
The problem in that picture above though looks to me like autofocus just picked out the plants at the back instead of your intended subject.

try not to zoom as much but use the auto focus/manual focus more, remmber you will take a big picture so you can alway cut it down around your subject
oh and do what vibs said, focus on your subject rather then the background...
