a friends iPod Mini has gone a bit spastic, and had about 300 songs on it, but after upgrading to iTunes 7, there are now only 28 songs listed in the iPod and using the ephpod software. However, there is over a 1GB of data on the iPod, being stored as data, not audio files. any ideas how i can get this music back????

try ipod agent and see if it shows all the music?
