me and a mate recently did an xe coversion on his corsa gsi its been a few weeks since we finished it and i am pleased to say that the engine hasnt missed a beat

the conversion was done in 2 days from the 1600 being driven in to the 20xe'd corsa being driven out,

we had to collect the recently fully rebuilt xe form gloucester, we borrowed my works van got it for a bargain price of 290, top guys who we bought the engine but have forgotted there names sorry! but was bought of here

in the back of the works van

here are the engines side by side

the next step was to removed the sound deading mainly to make the bay lok a lot cleaner and more factory looking as the sound deading aint easy to cut and would have looked a bit scruffy

wel then put the engine in the mounts that my mate had bought off ebay were good quality but the holes drilled for the chassis leg mount werent drilled right so that took a while to sort and get engine sat nice

then once engine was mount we wanted to fit the power cap having a few conversion before i have never used a power cap bit bigger than wot i thought they were and had to remove a fair bit of the bulk head but thats no biggie less to removed when we fit tb's! big thanks to my mates grandad big ray he loves the grinder lol

then it was time to sort the exhaust out even though we wanted to bay to look factory we couldnt keep the standard corsa exhaust so i made one from bits we had lying round

old one

new one

then we fiteed the radaitor and some red silicones i had form a previous converison i did

then came the wiring

wanted it to look factory could have some used some proper loom tape but didnt have any so after soldering and heat srinking came the insulting tape lol

all done and concealed

the gear linkage was next took a little while as i dont like to use the gaer box spacers i grind a bit off the f20 and use the standard corsa mount and linkage this way you dont have to extend to linkage like on my bros nova i did

, but as the box is bigger the linkge is further back to weardss the bulkhead so when 2nd and 4th gear it often hits the rack in this case it did quite badly so i had to bend the linkage slightly forward (the bits with the balls on lol that the pastic or metal on the early one joins the linkage together) but the change is mint my mates words not mine lol!

then we fitted bumper etc and dropped on to its wheels

and heres the finished article

forgot to get pics of the xe brakes fitted with ebc discs and greenstuff pads

well the rebuild, was head rebuild valve steam oil seals head skim, head was tested for pourisity tappets, new rings, big ends and mains. all gm components, new timing belt oil pump water and rollers and tensioner, 8v sump gasket,

i rebuilt my xe from top to bottom and it cost me 1500! so i know how much they cost but its obvious you can buy a rebuilt engine for peanuts just gotta wait and one will come up
