rite this is my problem, i have just got my car back from being remaped with tb's on, it has kent rally cams in not sure of the spec as ov yet, vernier pulleys, power boostvalve, ported and polished head. forged pistons and rods. its running omex 600 management with all these mods it should be running at least 220bhp and over 200lbft but its only running 175bhp and 188lbft the valve timing that kent recommended made it run worst and the graph was all ova the place. does any body have any ideas why it might be so down on power. the compression is 165 on all cylinders and it has just had the headgaskett done. any surgestions would be helpful

Sure my compression was up near 200. I'll go see what i can find.

Compression on my 1.9 pug GTi was about 180 last time i checked!!!

yup.... my engine (last engine when taken out) was running 225 on 3 cly and 210 on 1.

Is the head needing skimmed? Are the valves seated correctly?

At least 220bhp is VERY optimistic by the way

has the engine been rebuilt recently? it could well be that the engine needs running in, just like yours in the corsa adam. also, thats bloody good torque already from a TB setup. i would say that getting over 200lb/ft is not likely to happen with that spec. what length trumpets are you using? at what rev limit are the figures peaking at?

its all in the cam timing and mapping. you can lose or gain 20bhp either way from badly set up cams and maps

the valve timing that it was set to was specified by kent cams them self and said with the spec and the valve timing set as they stated it would do roughly 230bhp, the guy showed me another corsa map he had done just b4 mine and with standard cams in it did 200lbft

an XE with standard cams making 200lbft? and 230bhp is a bit OTT in my opinion as well, maybe 200-210

who is doing the mapping?

yes, agree with AK on this one. with that spec I would be happy with 190-200 bhp. also the cam timimg is set to the manufacturers reccomendations, try getting it on the rollers at somewhere else and asking them to adjust the cam timing to see if there is any gains there.

if its still running hyd lifters you'll be at the same or lower spec cams as me.

I have a freshly mapped engine (alothoug needing fine tuning/run in etc) and its 203bhp with 190lbft

210-215 is about normal figures for cams that work with hyd lifters (288ish)
