I just crossed the red and yellow wires so that the headunit remembers my settings, turned it on and all was well, worked fine as it should.

Put the headunit in the cage, went to turn it on and nothing?

Is it possible that the connectors i used on the red and yellow wires have shorted out on the cage?

If so would it blow a fuse etc?

if its touched the cage then it will haev blown the fuse yeh
cant remember where the fuse is but it will be listed on the fuse box cover
