Hi.

I have a Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 LS, P Reg 1997.

I was driving and the speedometer just stopped working, so I have tried cleaning the electrical connector that the dial kit plugs into it, that did not work - so I tried going to the scrap yard and I tried two dials from down there and neither worked.

The petrol meter still works fine, but the speedometer does not work

Also, one of the other dials I tried from the scrap yard had a rev counter on it and that worked but still my speedometer didn't work.

I do not know what the problem could be, I was told that maybe it is my gearbox sensor, but I am not sure, does anyone have any ideas?

Also, if it is the sensor, where abouts is it under the bonet, because ive been told there are three sensors

Thanks

Adam

well it seems to run off electronics not off a cable, so I assume it can't

Thanks

Locate your gearbox and there is a plug going into the top of it (put the car into reverse as it moves the arm out of your way) this unscrews and contains the driver for the speedo. It basically spins with the speed of the gearbox and converts that signal into an electrical one. I gave this a clean on mine (also the connections) and it solved mine

Although mine was an intermitant fault.

Not a good pic but it was in my garage so i thought i would post it. You can see the battery in the top of the pic and the bit you want to undo is the thing with the blue wire coming out of it

Although if you said a speedo with a rev counter had a working rev counter this may mean that this is the problem. Im not sure if they drive off of the same unit. However im sure someone on here can expand

Thanks for the help:

if it is the fuse does anyone has an idea how I would locate the correct fuse for the speedo or is it just go through each one until you find it.

I have noticed on my dials that an electric sign lights up, is this a sign it could be a fuse, or would it do this is the sensor had gone?

Thanks

If it's the fuse, it's a yellow 20A number 18 iirc.
