My 1997 corsa has recently gone a bit strange with regards steering.
I was on the motorway and suddenly the steering went light and felt like i was driving on ice.
The problem is not noticeable on A Roads and only when doing 70ish on the motorway.
I have had it checked out by a mechanic who says there doesnt seem to be a problem but it is still feeling strange to drive.
Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?

Steering does get lighter at high speeds. Do you drive on motorways often?

the steering can feel light if the alignment/tracking is out. This should be apparent at all speeds though.

wrong way round, it gets light at lows spedds so's to make it easier to turn, just like if you stop to park up it goes light as fcuk,

Shep.... shut up
You are referring to speed sensitive power steering.
With no PS... steering will be lighter than when slow/standstill.

car has recently had 4 x new tyres and tracking and things checked out!
I do a lot of motorway driving and have only just noticed it in the last week!
I may be paranoid

Have you checked your tyre pressures?
If these are way high, there is less rubber on the road. Leads to light steering.

My EPS is terrible trying to park or when the car is at idling speeds - speed up the engine revs and the steering gets more power

if it's had new tyres, like Dean says, chances are the pressures are too high.
get the tracking checked too.
