as above,my temp guage was reading 102 this morning despite only doing 50 mph then went down to around 90 in the space of 30 to 40 seconds without the use of the fan switcing on.Now the fan didnt kick in when it read 102 so i know it wasnt reading correct as the fan switch is 2 months old and ive idled it on the drive and fan works fine.Also on my way home tonight it never showed above 85.The cars not losing any water at all and the exhaust isnt smoking either.Im guessing the temp sender is fubar?

i wud put it down to you havuing a shitty old 'scapyard dodger'. Just get a new car mate. u dnt have any problems with them

Have you checked that the temp sender connector hasnt come loose? my temp was high this morning but i need a new thermostat.

yeah checked that and if it were loose it wouldnt work at all.
