Hi all,
Right, basically tonight I had a thought, Im looking at getting a corsa bodyshell which has had a 1.6 engine in it, with powersteering.
But the 1.2 8v engine i was planning to put in the shell doesn't have powersteering, so.....
A)Is the power steering setup off the 1.6 compatible with the 1.2? as I've seen 1.2 8v corsas with power steering floating around on ebay recently,
and
B) Could I just leave the power steering off, and have normal manual steering like I have now?
thanks all

Why make a 1.6 into a 1.2 8v?

Going to be dropping the 1.6 engine out of the body and putting the other engine in, as possibly going to be doing an engine overhaul on the 1.6, then when my insurance is a little cheaper, put it back in?

As far as I know, engines up to 1.6 won;t drastically affect your premium anyway (unless you're under 25 of course). It's the reason I dropped a 1.6 into my 1.4 SRi...it's not going to be too harsh a difference in premium.

Yes you could keep manual steering , BUT I think you are giving yourself an awful lot of work doing the swapping about

sounds a bit pointless to me. why not just buy a 1.2 corsa? they can be picked up from as little as £300 in ok condition

Dont get any experience that way do I
Also how different is the 1.6 loom to the 1.2 one?
And Escortgti, I'd prefer to have power steering, is there some blanking plate or something on the 1.2 the PAS pump bolts on or?

May seem pointless to some, but while the 1.2 is in, I'll be sorting out the 1.6, I cant afford to insure two corsa's and also on the car I have now, the chassis legs are bent

Vauxhall didnt make a Corsa Breeze in a 1.6 (As far as I know) This shell origionally started out as a 1.2 8v...so tis a bit
Anyway, how different would the looms be?

TBH mate i don't think this will lower your insurance, as i remember my bro had an RST fiesta that had a fooked engine, i wanted to put a 1.3 in it so i could have it as a 1st car but the insurance still classed it as a 1.6 turbo, plus how much is your insurance on a 1.6 corsa, Can't be over a grand, I'm 18 and i have insurance on my seat ibiza 1.8t for £1600, so unless you have just passed your test insurance on it can't be bad!!!!
