......just bought the logitech z5500 and im a bit confused.
Basically at the moment I only have it connected to my TV via the optical out on my TV to the optical in on the surround sound.
I did a diagnostics test and its only picking up a PCM signal. Because of this I can only select, Stereo, Stereo x 2, Pro Logic Movie and Pro Logic Music as surround options. What I really want is Dolby Digital and/or DTS.
So I thought that maybe the TV (Samsung) might not support the above. SO I plugged the optic cable into my PS2 which says on the top DTS sound output. Put in my Jackie Brown DVD as it says on the case it is DTS and I had sound coming out all the speakers but i still couldnt select DTS on the screen like im sure im should be able too.
I have been using here for advice >>>>Link
Im sure theres something im doing wrong or I havent got it set up right some how or the items im using it with dont support each other so im hoping someone might be able to shed some light.
I also want sound coming out of all speakers for when im watching football which again at the moment I cant seem to get.
Sensible suggestions only please cos im out of ideas, no telling me what i should have bought yadda yadda yadda. I want to get what I have working.
Thanks

I Have just had a look in the mnaual for the DVD player in the front room. In the audio setup you have 2 options. 1 creates a PCM output signal, which is what im getting at the moment, the 2nd is called bitsream which allows for full dolby 5.1........
so im gonna have to buy a decent DVD player.
I was going to wait a few months for a HD DVD player but im thinking buy a half decent dvd player now then just play HD DVDs through xbox.

Stero Output from both so to get full surround sound you shoudl have bought a pro logic II compatible system.
This will take a 2 channel source and turn it int o 5.1

Pro-Logic II... big difference, converts stereo sound (red and white cable) to full 5.1
ProLogic doesn't, will be just the left and right speakers, and sub
