All were taken on my Panasonic DMC-LZ1, with 'cloudy' white balance setting, 'auto' ISO setting, and thats about it

I don't know what the ISO thing does, I took some pictures on the different settings, and it looked no different

Should I have edited the pics at all? and if so, what should I have done?

ISO is how sensitive the sensor is.

Higher ISO means you need less light for a certain exposure, at the cost of increased noise.

Using a camera like yours I would always have ISO as low as possible because it'll be noisy enough as it is.

Sometimes noise is worth it for a shot you might otherwise not get though.

As for how to improve the pictures I can't help you

I'm still rubbish at it as well.

The last pic is crap, as it was quite long, and zoomed in a fair way.

I don't understand photgraphy I just point and click.

How to improve them:

Take them on a day when the sky isn't the same colour as your car! or put a gradual filter over the sky in post production like they do on Top gear and Fith Gear.

Nice SoftStars though - I have 16" ones on mine.

That's an awesome read Danny. Some great info there

If I knew how to use photoshop, I'm sure I could edit the pics slightly, and make them better, but I don't know where to start

If you have photoshop then have a read through some of these as they have some good info on using ps & editing photo's etc.

http://www.good-tutorials.com/

Adjusting levels to improve contrast

Photo correction

white balance

there was also a topic on here by vibrio iirc which had some good tips about editing the pics in ps, using levels, colour/contrast & borders. I cant seem to find it atm

its just about having a read through the tutorials & practicing tbh

A bit more saturation is needed to give the grass some life.
