Was a bit of posting about this in the other thread so thought Id start one just for it.

Who do you think deserves it?

Also, just found the nominations for Young Sports Personality of the Year...
Theo Walcott - Football
Sam Northeast - Cricket
Philip Clapp - Rowing
Paul Drinkhall - Table tennis
Elizabeth Clegg - Athletics
Gordon Reid - Wheelchair tennis
David Daniell - Cycling
Imogen Cairns - Gymnastics

Im sorry, but WTF is Walcott doing on that list? OK he got picked to go to the WC...but its not like he came on at ANY point and set the game alight. Ridiculous. Andy Murray should be winning it again if you ask me, no one else I can think of who deserves it more, especially now he has broken into the top 20 in the world this year.

I reckon Darren Clarke should get it. Was an amazing feat what he did for the Ryder Cup.

Sussex County Cricket Club, who did the County Championship and C&G Trophy double; and St Helens, winner of all three of rugby league's domestic titles. Those are the other two nominees for this.

And considering the Ashes team got it over us winning the Champions League Id expect the Ryder team to over those.

Apprantly Darren Clarke has said that he would prefer not to recieve the award because he felt it would be a sympathy vote and he would prefer to see Calzaghe get it

Imogen Cairns should win it out of them, though.

The problem is it used to be sports "Personality" of the year. This did not mean they had to win everything but they did the most for the sport, great 'personality' now it just seems its a "Sports person of the year" it has nothing to do with personality

IMO there have been very very few major successes. The ones we have had have been in very neiche sports where the impact of winning is minimal outside of the winner.
