You notice the difference when on the motorway etc, at 70mph your doing about 3/4k rpm whereas a WR would mean the engine would be doing less revs for the same car speed.
If you can do about 50mph in 2nd gear its a CR box.
It will be stamped into the endplate of the box, something along the lines of f15cr3.74

erm...2nd gear tops out at just over 65mph (doin just over 7k)
3rd gear just over 90...
so u recon this would be a CR then?

Sounds like a WR to me.
Or its a CR with a low final drive.
3rd gear on my f15cr with 3.74 final drive gives about 80mph in 3rd, at about 6200rpm that is tho.

Yeah, if you look through the front passenger wheel arch the code is stamped under the end plate cover, on the bottom edge.

how can you tell what gearbox it is from his velocity it all depends on the rev limit for the engine, and for an X16XE with a 6750RPM rev limit with an F15CR, top speed is 58mph.

Eh?
Enter the gearbox type and his rev limit into a program which calculates top speed.
