Yes Robin...........any advantage/disadvantage over a crossflow head??

Ive got the bodged bit on the manifold sorted & re-threaded, stuck the head on & torqued it down, refitted the cam etc. Havnt had a chance to get it finished though due to having to pick up Jades new car. So im thinking monday now for finish

The downside of working on an engine, the blood that leaves your hands afterwards

Ok ive been neglecting the golf, just been busy with everything & had no time to spend on it. Today however I managed to get some time to myself & got the new timing belt & tensioner fitted, filled with fresh oil, turned it over by hand to get a compression, lumped all the remaining bits home, refitted the battery & fingers crossed turned the key..............& it wouldnt start - Battery didnt have much charge, so I connected it up to the mini & after turning over on the starter 5 or 6 times it sprung into life Runs pretty smooth aswell, although very loud (still to refit exhaust) Chuffed to bits it actually works though Still need to do a few bits, alternators squeeling like a bitch, manifold/downpipe bolts need tightened, got a water leak needing looked at etc but she goes

Hopefully get it insured & taxed this week & on the road

Disadvantage is that the exhaust gasses head the inlet ports up and theres a 180 degree bend for the gasses to flow instead of them going on a straight route.

Good to see it runs though

Plans to sell the Alfa, run the Golf over the summer, enjoy it for a few months & probably sell it. If I was to keep it id just want to keep chucking money at it I think Think i'll get something newer for winter once ive had my fun.

Ooops still logged in as Jade

Im not 100% on whats happening marc, I may keep it longer, all depends on getting a new job really. I dont think id trust the golf to take me to aberdeen & back every week if I get one up there!! Would be a shame to sell but Id need the money from it to buy another one.

Yeah, no point keeping if its going to leave you short. Be nice to keep if you could afford to keep it for occasional use etc though!

Thanks guys, It drives fine, had it up the street but dont dare go any further with no tax/insurance!!

Took some more pics - seeing the suns a shining!

Battery;s a bit flat from sitting for 6 months so put that on charge & I decided to buy some new cam cover studs (seeing I snapped one while refitting) & nuts & got on with fitting them...............

Also ordered some 25mm hubcentric spacers for the back wheels, hopefully get those in the next few days
