are hot water tanks normally attached to the wall or just sat on the "chip board?"

reason being, i have just been fiddling and noticed you can push you finger through the chipboard surrounding it!!!!

Normally sitting on the chipboard , if its up in the loft yeah ?

Is the cboard wet/damp ?

when u say hot water tanks, i presume u mean the plastic/galvanised tank in your loft? or is it the tall cylinder that has foam round it in a cupboard?

if it is the tank in the roofspace then it MIGHT be condensation,although if it is installed in accordance to Bylaw30 then there shouldn be condensation. but it is more than likely to have a leak, no matter if its the tank or the cylinder

the plastic or galvo tanks shouldnt be on chipboard. we have had a few falling through ceilings. normaly it is a leak, but it could also be the warm damp air rising up from the cylinder. that is if the cylinder is directly below the tank
